前身バンドとして1982年2月「HELL FIGHTER 」 を結成。1983年1月「CROWLEY」 に改名。オカルト、ホラー、魔術、魔法使い等をコンセプトにしたメタルバンドとして活動を開始。


　１９８４年には、ヴォーカル：岩井高志、ギター：古久根吉紀、ベース：畔柳則之、ドラム：HIRO （ヒロ）という、いわゆる黄金期と言われたラインナップとなり、バンドの人気は急激に上昇した。
同年（’８４）には、E.L.Lレーベルのコンピレーションアルバムに２曲参加。その後、１９８５年にはシングル盤、「SCREAM OF DEATH」、１９８６年にはLP盤、「WHISPER OF THE EVIL」をリリースし、CROWLEYの人気は全国規模となり、更にヨーロッパ、北米、南米のメタル雑誌に紹介され、海外のプロモーターからツアーのオファーも受けるが、８６年の暮れにドラムのHIROが、マネジメントとのトラブルにより脱退し、その数ヶ月後にベースの畔柳も脱退....。


結局、バンドは海外ツアー、海外レーベルからのリリースを中止せざるを得なくなってしまった。
その後、バンドは新しいドラマーとベーシストを加入させ、活動を続けるが、その後は作品のリリースもないまま、CROWLEYは、８０年代後半に解散した。
８０年代当時、CROWLEYは、派手なメイクと衣装、それにステージセット、パイロや火を使った演出などを行って人気を得た日本で最初のメタルバンドでもあったが当時、メジャー並のレコードセールスがありながら、メジャーのレーベルとの契約をしなかった事と、過去のレコード盤のCD再発化がされなかった事により、CROWLEYは、ある意味、伝説化した幻のバンドとなってしまった。
しかしながら、その時代以降に世に出て来て、一世を風靡したヴィジュアル系を含む、アリーナやスタジアムクラスでコンサートを行うまでになった数々の後世代のバンド達に、CROWLEYは絶大なる影響を与えていたのは紛れもない事実である。


　そして.......どれだけの月日が経ったのであろうか.......。奇跡は起こった!!! 2017年8月、CROWLEYが、黄金期のメンバー３人（岩井高志、古久根吉紀、HIRO）にプラス、新メンバーとして、ベースに三芳俊二を迎えて遂に再始動する。
当初は、2014年秋から、2015年夏にかけて行われる予定だったMETAL ALL STARS という名の大規模な北米ツアーに参加し、アメリカとカナダで、２０本のライヴを決行する事が決定したのが再結成のキッカケだった。
それに伴い、新たに歌詞を英詞にして録音されたニュー・アルバムを製作したがアルバム完成後、北米ツアーの延期が発表され結局、プロモーターが失踪するというアクシデントに遭い、ツアーはそのままキャンセルとなってしまった。
しかしながら、CROWLEYはそれで終わってしまった訳ではない。長い眠りから覚めたCROWLEYの快進撃は、これから始まるのである。


'19年4月オフィシャル・フェイスブックにて、古久根吉紀氏が一身上の都合により脱退する事になったとアナウンスを発表。 強力なサポートギタリストを迎えて、'19年５月２日（名古屋）、５月４日（東京）のライヴは予定通り行い、新譜のレコーディングを行う予定との事！推移を見守りたいと思います！
